LeeGeddy Review: (Audio - 7.5, Video - 9)

PACKAGING: quite nice, double DVD case, with printed color artwork and printed labels on each DVD-r.

OPENING MENU: basic blue screen with PLAY, NEXT, BACK (last 2 do not work)

CHAPTERS: none. indexed every +/- 5 minutes (probably mastered/recorded on stand-alone DVD recorder and not computer based recorder)

VIDEO QUALITY: very good to outstanding. overall, the picture quality is extremely good. I can see the wrinkles on Neil's face and count the frets clearly on Alex's guitar!!

AUDIO QUALITY: on my rating scale....VG+/EX-. nice full range recording with good bass extension. Geddy's bass is tough to distinguish sometimes. Geddy's vocals are good and Alex's guitars are well pronounced. Neil's drums pound very nicely. there's a slight differential from the video and audio (audio lags behind the video).

CAMERA WORK: mostly steady. doesn't look like a tripod shot. close-ups of members is pretty cool. not too much full stage shots. fair amount of camera movements to capture each band member. (2002-12-10)

Pantera live in Hamilton 2001 - 1DVD - June 25 - 2 camera mix

Pantera

Slaughtered

Strength Beyond Strength
I'll Cast a Shadow
25 Years
Fucking Hostile
This Love (center cam cuts)
Primal Concrete Sledge (left cam only)
Cowboys from Hell (left cam only)

Sources:
Center camera - taken from Hi8 master tape - filmed by Vic, transferred by Mike Smyser
Cuts out at beginning of "This Love"
Left camera - taken from an unknown filmer's 1st generation VHS tape, transferred by Digitallive
Missing the encore of "Walk"
Audio
CSB > Sony TCD-D10001 - Taped by Toaster
Features the complete show, so "Walk" is audio only

DL's notes:
I've had these 2 seperate sources for a long time. The left one I got
from the filmer a week after the show in fact. I'd been told they did I
2 camera mix but for whatever reason I didn't obtain it back in the VHS
days. Unfortunatly, a high quality copy of it from the mix tape master
or even a 1st generation copy never made it to the DVD trading world.
Only a poor copy did, 2nd at best and possibly 3rd or 4th generation.
Either angle on their own were more enjoyable, in my eyes, than that one.

Fast forward to 2018, and after Vinnie Paul's death, some shows popped up
on dime in tribute. One of them was a high quality audio of this same show.
I don't like to redo another filmer's work, but the chance to add the audio
plus tweek the video mix, knowing the original hadn't surfaced in sufficient
quality these last 15 years DVD tradings been the norm, was appealing enough
to overcome my hesitation.

I feel what we have now is the definitive version of this show, now complete,
albeit only audio, of the "Walk" encore. Also, I feel like is the best video
representation of Pantera's final US summer tour. There are a lot of good
videos June and July of '01, but no 2 cams, and none with audio quite this good.

As for the show itself, setlist is standard for this tour. I did miss the deep cuts
"Floods" and "Use My Third Arm" that had been added for the spring US and overseas
dates. The band here is firing on all cylinders. Mixing this reminded what a true
engine like precision these 3 really were. Phil's in a great mood here, and sings
most the words truer to their studio recordings than had been done on a lot of
other tours, He's enthusiastic and friendly with the crowd, and let's the music
do the talking for the most part.

Pantera live in Seoul 2001 - 1DVD - May 6 - remaster

Pantera
2001-05-06
Seoul, South Korea
Remastered by Eblanken

I got this in a DVD trade. Definitely a low-gen source.

The colors in the picture are a lot better than in the one recently uploaded here. Also,
each song is a chapter, instead of having 5 minute chapters, and there's a different menu.

Info: This angle was shot from the right of the stage for Pantera and from dead
center from Slayer. I transferred this myself from a 1st generation VHS video
that I received from the filmer around 2000. I'd suspect that the original video
was filmed and PAL and transferred to an NTSC VHS video for my copy, as the filmer
was from the UK.
